CVE-2023-36718

Local code execution across virtualization boundary

Published Oct 10, 2023 · Updated Apr 14, 2025

Code injection in Microsoft Windows Virtual Trusted Platform Module allows local users to execute code outside the affected security boundary. Microsoft has not published the affected vTPM routine, the malformed input, or the incorrect operation that permits code injection. Exploitation requires local low-privilege access and complex conditions, after which code runs across a changed security boundary with confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
