CVE-2023-3670

Local privilege escalation via writable script directories

Published Jul 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2024

Improper permissions in CODESYS Development System before 3.5.17.0 and Scripting before 4.1.0.0 allow local users to execute scripts. Affected releases enumerate scripts from two shared %PROGRAMDATA%\CODESYS subfolders that every low-privileged user can write, then offer them to a legitimate user. Exploitation requires local low-privileged code execution and a legitimate user to select the planted script, which runs as that user's CODESYS process and reaches Administrator context when the victim is an administrator.
