Blocked-image display via unchecked Manualthumb path
Published Aug 20, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2024
Improper input validation in affected MediaWiki releases allows remote attackers to display images blocked by the configured Bad image list. Parser-generated manual-thumbnail links reached Linker without a badFile lookup, allowing the thumb parameter to reference a prohibited image. Exploitation requires a target entry in the bad-image list and the ability to submit File syntax; the result is unauthorized image display, not file upload or code execution.
