Code execution via pipe path normalization
Published Jun 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 28, 2026
OS command injection in Artifex Ghostscript before 10.01.2 allows attackers to execute commands when a crafted document is processed. The gp_validate_path_len and control-path routines normalize %pipe% and | command strings as ordinary file paths before permission comparison, allowing syntax to alter the checked command. Execution requires a local user or an application to process attacker-controlled PostScript or EPS content, and commands run with the Ghostscript process's privileges.
