Root access via upload path traversal
Published Jun 25, 2023 · Updated Nov 27, 2024
Path traversal in CloudPanel 2.0.0 through 2.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to gain root access through File Manager uploads. The upload handler accepts attacker-controlled upload_fullpath values containing traversal sequences and writes submitted files with root privileges outside the intended directory. A normal User account can overwrite /root/.ssh/authorized_keys with an attacker-controlled key, bypassing panel authentication and granting root SSH access.
