CVE-2023-36624Public exploit

Root code execution via unrestricted sudo tar

Published Jul 5, 2023 · Updated Nov 21, 2024

Privilege escalation in Loxone Miniserver Go Gen.2 14.0.3.28 and earlier allows local users to execute commands as root via sudo. The sudoers configuration lets the low-privilege lx account run /usr/bin/tar with arbitrary arguments as root without a password, including tar's checkpoint-action option. Access to the lx operating-system account is required; successful exploitation grants unrestricted root command execution on the appliance.
