CVE-2023-36609Network attack vector

Root code execution via pushed OpenVPN scripts

Published Jul 3, 2023 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Improper trust in OpenVPN configuration scripts in Ovarro TBox firmware 1.50.598 and earlier allows attackers to gain root access. The RTUs run OpenVPN as root and execute user-defined configuration scripts pushed from an attacker-controlled local OpenVPN server. Exploitation requires high privileges and control of that server; the pushed script then executes with full device privileges.
