CVE-2023-36608Network attack vector

Credential disclosure via MD5 password hashing

Published Jul 3, 2023 · Updated Oct 25, 2024

Broken password hashing in Ovarro TBox RTU firmware 1.46 through 1.50.598 allows remote authenticated users to expose stored credentials. The password-storage routine hashes passwords with MD5, leaving captured hashes susceptible to practical offline cracking rather than protecting them with a password-specific construction. Network access with low privileges is required; successful recovery compromises credential confidentiality but does not directly alter data or interrupt service.
