Authenticated command execution via crafted BPMN2 definitions
Published Dec 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Command injection in ILIAS 7 before 7.23 and ILIAS 8 before 8.3 allows remote authenticated users to execute system commands via BPMN2 files. The Workflow Engine parses attacker-authored BPMN2 definitions as executable workflow instructions without isolating command-capable actions. Access to the authenticated workflow-definition upload is required, and commands run with the application user's server privileges.
