Database server crash via recursive insert trigger
Published Jun 22, 2023 · Updated Dec 6, 2024
Infinite recursion in list_append in MonetDB Server 11.45.17 and 11.46.0 allows remote attackers to crash the database via crafted SQL. Trigger expansion recurses through sql_insert_triggers and rel_insert until list_append crashes rather than returning a constraint or stack-limit error. Reachability requires a SQL session permitted to create a table and self-referencing trigger and insert a row; exploitation interrupts database service.
