CVE-2023-36321Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Utility crash via unchecked negative message index

Published Oct 17, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Buffer overflow in COVESA DLT Daemon before 2.18.8 allows context-dependent attackers to crash dlt-sortbytimestamp via a crafted DLT file. The dlt_file_message function checked only the upper bound of its message index, so a negative index reached an out-of-range memory access. Processing the crafted file is required, and the demonstrated consequence is premature utility termination rather than daemon compromise.
