Stored script execution via unencoded audit titles
Published Jan 30, 2024 · Updated May 29, 2025
Stored XSS in the Craft CMS Audit Plugin before 3.0.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute script during user creation. AuditService::onSaveElement assigns the user-controlled title directly to the audit model and snapshot without HTML encoding, so it persists into later output. Exploitation requires low-privileged network access and a separate user to render the stored content; the bounded consequence is script execution in that user's browser.
