CLI crash via undersized option metadata allocation
Published Jun 23, 2023 · Updated Dec 2, 2024
Heap buffer over-read in Gifsicle 1.93 allows local users to crash the command-line process with an ambiguous numeric option. finish_string_list allocates metadata only for real list items, then adds a synthetic any integer item that ambiguity_error indexes without a corresponding Clp_InternOption entry. The documented --loopcount=- argument requires local command execution; the observed result is an AddressSanitizer abort, and Debian reports no security impact beyond the CLI crash.
