CVE-2023-3618Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via undersized Fax3 run buffer

Published Jul 12, 2023 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Buffer overflow in LibTIFF before 4.5.1 allows remote attackers to crash an application after a user processes a crafted TIFF file. The Fax3 codec sizes its run array without the extra terminal element, so Fax3Encode can pass an out-of-bounds run span to _TIFFmemcpy. User interaction is required, and the reported consequence is a process segmentation fault rather than data disclosure or modification.
