CVE-2023-36017Network attack vector

Remote code execution via undisclosed type confusion

Published Nov 14, 2023 · Updated Oct 8, 2025

Type confusion in the Microsoft Windows Scripting Engine allows remote attackers to execute code after a user opens crafted content. Microsoft identifies the flaw as access to a resource through an incompatible type, but has not disclosed the affected function, object type, or memory operation. Exploitation requires user interaction; successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code in the security context of the targeted user, permitting data access, modification, or service interruption.
