CVE-2023-35960Public exploit

Arbitrary command execution via unsanitized decompression filename

Published Jan 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

OS command injection in GTKWave 3.3.115 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands by inducing a victim to open a crafted wave file. In legacy VCD decompression, vcd_main appends an unsanitized .gz or .zip filename to the gzip -cd command and passes the resulting string to popen. The -L legacy-mode path and user interaction are required, and injected shell metacharacters execute with the victim's privileges.
