Network traffic interception via driver handle race
Published Jul 5, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2024
Race condition in MADEFORNET HTTP Debugger 9.12 and earlier allows local users to intercept system-wide network traffic. The Windows service launches the NetFilterSDK driver without first setting the seclevel registry key, leaving a timing window in which another process can win the driver's single-handle lock. Execution of an unprivileged application during driver startup is required; a successful race exposes raw TCP and UDP streams, including HTTPS traffic.
