CVE-2023-35840Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary file write via target path traversal

Published Jun 19, 2023 · Updated Dec 11, 2024

Path traversal in elFinder before 2.1.62 allows remote authenticated users with write access to place files outside the configured root. The LocalVolumeDriver _joinPath method accepts dot-dot segments in the base64-encoded target path and joins them without rejecting traversal in the directory portion. An account permitted to write through the PHP connector can place arbitrary files within the web application's filesystem permissions, including its application root.
