Traffic blocking via manipulated local-network routes
Published Aug 9, 2023 · Updated Oct 18, 2024
Routing misconfiguration in WireGuard client 0.5.3 on Windows allows physically proximate attackers to block selected IP traffic. The client treats an attacker-assigned public subnet as local and applies routing and firewall rules that prevent traffic to matching destinations despite the active VPN tunnel. Exploitation requires the victim to connect to an attacker-controlled Wi-Fi or Ethernet network that supplies the non-RFC1918 subnet.
