Unauthenticated root code execution via SMS eval injection
Published Jun 29, 2023 · Updated Nov 27, 2024
Eval injection in the stw_RecvSMS utility on STW TCG-4 and TCG-4lite modules allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code as root via crafted SMS. The utility evaluates untrusted SMS content without neutralizing directives; on TCG-4, SMS_WAKEUP=ON can invoke it while ignition is off. No authentication is required, and affected deployment packages are 3.01r1-Gecko, 3.02r0-Hedgehog, 3.03r0-Impala, and 3.04r2-Jellyfish for TCG-4 and 3.04r2-Jellyfish for TCG-4lite.
