CVE-2023-35798Network attack vector

Arbitrary file read via injected SQLAlchemy scheme

Published Jun 27, 2023 · Updated Oct 7, 2024

Improper input validation in Apache Airflow ODBC and MSSQL Providers before 4.0.0 and 3.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to read files. The OdbcHook and MsSqlHook sqlalchemy_scheme properties accept a connection-extra value containing colon or slash characters and insert it into the SQLAlchemy engine URI. Exploitation requires DAG code to call get_sqlalchemy_connection and access to modify the corresponding Airflow connection resource; the result is bounded to files readable by the Airflow process.
