Local privilege escalation via unsafe Intent deserialization
Published Sep 11, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024
Unsafe deserialization in Google Android 11, 12, 12L, and 13 allows local users to control other running activities. AccountManagerService retrieved the KEY_INTENT Parcelable without rejecting objects whose runtime class was not exactly Intent, allowing crafted parcel data to pass validation. A locally installed app with ordinary privileges can reach the path without user interaction and gain control over activities running at higher privilege.
