Remote code execution via heap-based buffer overflow
Published Dec 12, 2023 · Updated Jan 1, 2025
Remote code execution in Microsoft ODBC Driver on affected Windows releases allows remote attackers to execute code after user interaction. Microsoft identifies a heap-based buffer overflow but has not disclosed the parser, malformed field, or incorrect memory operation that causes it. Exploitation requires a client application to connect to an attacker-controlled database server and process its malicious response.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
