A use-after-free in the Windows Kernel allows local users on affected Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server builds to gain SYSTEM. Layered-key rename handling fails to retain a reference to a security descriptor before releasing its object, leaving kernel code to access freed memory. A low-privileged user must log on and run a crafted program locally; successful exploitation executes code with SYSTEM privileges.
