Authenticated code execution via RPC use-after-free
Published Jul 11, 2023 · Updated Jan 1, 2025
Use-after-free in Microsoft Windows RPC Runtime allows remote authenticated users to execute code through network RPC requests. Microsoft identifies the weakness as use-after-free but has not published the affected function, object lifetime error, or request sequence that triggers it. An attacker must first authenticate to the target; successful exploitation runs code in the vulnerable RPC service's security context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
