Privilege escalation via unrestricted tip content rendering
Published Jun 20, 2023 · Updated Dec 6, 2024
Incorrect authorization in XWiki Platform allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary wiki content through a crafted tip extension. TipsPanel renders the tip parameter from an org.xwiki.platform.help.tipsPanel UI extension without a restricted transformation context, so macros run with the TipsPanel author's rights. An account able to create and save a UI extension can run Groovy code with those elevated rights, affecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
