CVE-2023-35042Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote command execution via crafted Jiffle script

Published Jun 12, 2023 · Updated Nov 27, 2024

Code injection in GeoServer before 2.18.6, 2.19.0 through 2.19.5, and 2.20.0 through 2.20.3 allows remote attackers to execute commands. The WPS Execute path accepts a crafted ras:Jiffle script in wps:LiteralData, generates Java code from it, and uses Janino to compile executable bytecode that reaches Runtime.exec. The WPS/Jiffle path must be remotely exposed; GeoServer identifies this as previously patched CVE-2022-24816 behavior and documents this CVE as disputed.
