CVE-2023-34968Network attack vector

Path disclosure via absolute Spotlight results

Published Jul 20, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025

Path disclosure in the Spotlight RPC service in Samba allows remote attackers to read absolute server-side paths in search results. The service returns the real share path in its initial response and absolute paths for matching files and directories instead of client-relative paths. Exposure requires a share with Spotlight enabled; the leaked filesystem structure can reveal confidential path components and support follow-on attacks.
