Unauthenticated service hang via zero-count RPC array
Published Jul 20, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025
Denial of service in the Samba package on affected Red Hat products allows remote attackers to hang mdssvc via a malformed RPC request. The sl_unpack_loop() unmarshalling function accepts a zero element count from an array-like network field and repeats indefinitely at 100% CPU. Exploitation is unauthenticated but requires Spotlight to be explicitly enabled globally or on a share, and the bounded consequence is a service hang.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
