Arbitrary code execution via KBD parser overwrite
Published Aug 23, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds writes in Hitachi EH-VIEW KeypadDesigner allow local users to execute arbitrary code by opening a malicious KBD file. Two flaws in the KeypadDesigner KBD parser write beyond memory-buffer bounds while processing crafted KBD file data. Exploitation requires user interaction to open the file, and the resulting code runs in the affected application's user context.
