Engine crash via invalid property hashmap entry
Published Jun 14, 2023 · Updated Jan 3, 2025
Reachable assertion in JerryScript 3.0 allows remote attackers to crash the JavaScript engine by executing crafted JavaScript. Repeated WeakSet construction over self-referential arrays drives property insertion into ecma_property_hashmap_create with an entry that fails ECMA_PROPERTY_IS_PROPERTY_PAIR. The proof of concept aborts a debug build and causes an invalid-read segmentation fault in a release build, while network reachability depends on an embedding application accepting attacker-controlled scripts.
