Host command execution via unrestricted CAP_SYS_ADMIN
Published Jun 29, 2023 · Updated Nov 26, 2024
Container escape in Play With Docker before 0.0.2 allows remote attackers to execute host commands from a provisioned container. The service grants CAP_SYS_ADMIN without an AppArmor restriction, letting container code mount a cgroup, point release_agent to a host-visible payload, and trigger it. A reachable playground session is required; successful exploitation crosses the container boundary and runs commands with host privileges.
