Tracking-data storage via blank-iframe exemption
Published Jul 5, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Authorization bypass in Mozilla Firefox before 115 allows remote attackers to store tracking data through an about:blank iframe. StorageAccess.cpp exempts about:blank iframes from the storage-access check, returning StorageAccess::eAllow even when all cookies are blocked. A user must visit a malicious site while the non-default “Block all cookies” setting is enabled; the site can persist local storage data despite that privacy choice.
