Root access via unauthenticated UART console
Published Aug 28, 2023 · Updated Oct 2, 2024
Privilege escalation in TechView LA-5570 Wireless Gateway 1.0.19_T53 allows physically proximate attackers to obtain root access via UART. The exposed UART console opens unrestricted root-filesystem access without requesting authentication or enforcing access control. Exploitation requires physical appliance access and serial hardware, after which the attacker gains full control of device data and functions.
