Script execution via unsafe comment-name attribute insertion
Published Jul 5, 2023 · Updated Nov 22, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in taoCMS 3.0.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser through a comment name. Model/Comment.php passes the name through Model/Base.php's safeword filter, whose tag stripping and HTML encoding do not make the value safe when front-end code inserts it into an HTML attribute. The attacker needs no privileges, but a user must reply to the crafted comment; the resulting script runs in that user's browser context.
