Application crash via unbounded recursive JSON parsing
Published Jun 14, 2023 · Updated Jan 6, 2025
Stack exhaustion in sojo 1.1.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash applications that parse a deeply nested JSON string. JsonParserGenerate recursively alternates array() and value() for every nested array without enforcing a depth limit, exhausting the Java call stack. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-supplied JSON to sojo; the demonstrated consequence is a StackOverflowError and process termination.
