Unauthenticated administrator creation via meta-key filter bypass
Published Jul 4, 2023 · Updated Nov 25, 2024
Privilege escalation in Ultimate Member before 2.6.7 allows remote attackers to create WordPress administrator accounts through registration. The registration handler accepts attacker-controlled user metadata after case changes, slashes, or Unicode variants bypass its wp_capabilities denylist. Unauthenticated access to an enabled Ultimate Member registration form is sufficient to gain full administrative control of the WordPress site.
