CVE-2023-34563Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated HTTP service crash via unchecked hostname copy

Published Jun 20, 2023 · Updated Dec 9, 2024

Stack buffer overflow in NETGEAR R6250 firmware 1.0.4.48 allows remote authenticated users to crash the router's HTTP service. A routine invoked by openvpn_mk_tar copies the NVRAM ddns_netgear_hostname value into a 512-byte stack buffer without checking its length. An authenticated web-management session is required; the published proof of concept overwrites the program counter and stops httpd, interrupting administrative access.
