Root code execution via hard-coded HMAC secret
Published Jul 5, 2023 · Updated Nov 21, 2024
Use of hard-coded credentials in AMI MegaRAC SP-X 12.0 before 12.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root via backup restoration. RestoreConfFile's VerifyFileIntegrity accepts a crafted backup when its trailer matches an HMAC-SHA1 derived from secrets embedded in libBackupConf.so. An administrator must restore the file; accepted Bash-script changes execute as root and can compromise BMC confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
