Authenticated code execution via unvalidated H2 JDBC URL
Published Jun 12, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Code injection in Apache NiFi 0.0.2 through 1.21.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute custom code through an H2 Database URL. The DBCPConnectionPool and HikariCPConnectionPool services accepted database URLs without rejecting the jdbc:h2 scheme, allowing H2 to interpret attacker-controlled connection directives. The user must already be authenticated and authorized to configure a controller service, and successful exploitation runs code in the NiFi server process.
