Authenticated arbitrary firmware installation via unchecked upload
Published Jul 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Improper firmware verification in Realtek rtl819x Jungle SDK 3.4.11 allows remote authenticated users to install arbitrary firmware. The boa /boafrm/formUpload handler accepts an uploaded image and completes the router upgrade without checking the firmware's validity or signature. Administrative access to the web interface is required, and a successful upload replaces trusted device code with attacker-controlled firmware.
