Privilege escalation via unquoted service executable path
Published Jul 3, 2023 · Updated Oct 25, 2024
Unquoted search path handling in Trellix MOVE AntiVirus 4.10.0 allows local users to escalate privileges through mvagtsce.exe. The installer registers the Windows service executable path without quotation marks, so Windows can launch an inserted executable from an earlier path segment. Exploitation requires local high-privileged access and can stop antimalware services by executing code in the service context.
