CVE-2023-34363Network attack vector

Traffic decryption via predictable fallback encryption keys

Published Jun 9, 2023 · Updated Jan 6, 2025

Cryptographic weakness in Progress DataDirect Connect for ODBC for Oracle before 08.02.2770 allows attackers to decrypt database traffic. When Oracle Advanced Security encryption initialization fails, the driver falls back to a mechanism that generates the private key with an insecure random number generator. Exploitation requires a well-placed attacker able to predict the generator output; SSL/TLS connections are not affected, and the reported consequence is disclosure of traffic between the driver and database server.
