Unauthenticated HTTP service crash via JSON decoding
Published Jul 31, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in ASUS RT-AX88U 3.0.0.4.388_22525-gd35b8fe and earlier allows remote attackers to crash httpd. The do_json_decode() function in ej.c reads beyond a buffer while decoding a crafted HTTP request, terminating the web server process. No authentication is required, and the demonstrated consequence is interruption of the router's HTTP management service rather than device-wide shutdown.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
