Code execution via unchecked VC6 buffer read
Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Sep 18, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Ashlar-Vellum Cobalt 11 build 1111 allows context-dependent attackers to execute code through a crafted VC6 file. The VC6 parser fails to validate user-supplied data against the allocated buffer before reading, so parsing can access memory past its end. Exploitation requires the target to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file, and successful code execution runs in the current process.
