Unauthenticated code execution via SNMP configuration injection
Published May 31, 2023 · Updated Jan 10, 2025
Command injection in BMC PATROL Agent 23.1.00 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code through remote configuration changes. The pconfig interface writes attacker-supplied commands into masterAgentName on Windows or masterAgentStartLine on Linux, which the SNMP startup path executes. Default deployments require no authentication, but execution begins only after the agent is remotely restarted; BMC disputes the issue because authentication can be enabled.
