CVE-2023-34250Network attack vector

Private-category topic-count disclosure via unfiltered dismissal endpoint

Published Jun 13, 2023 · Updated Jan 2, 2025

Information disclosure in Discourse before 3.0.4 and 3.1.0.beta1 through 3.1.0.beta4 allows remote attackers to read private topic counts. The new-topics dismissal endpoint counts recently created topics without filtering categories the requester cannot access, returning the aggregate while withholding topic content. No authentication or user interaction is required, but disclosure is limited to the number of recent topics in inaccessible categories.
