CVE-2023-3421Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Renderer memory corruption via negative AV1 layer index

Published Jun 26, 2023 · Updated May 5, 2025

Use-after-free in Google Chrome Media before 114.0.5735.198 allows remote attackers to corrupt heap memory via a crafted HTML page. Reconfiguring AV1 VideoEncoder without a scalability mode leaves the temporal-layer count at zero, and av1_svc_check_reset_layer_rc_flag uses the resulting negative index to access memory before the layer-context array. User interaction is required to load the page; the resulting renderer memory corruption affects data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
