CVE-2023-34195

DXE code execution via UEFI variable pointer

Published Sep 18, 2023 · Updated Sep 25, 2024

Code injection in InsydeH2O kernel 5.0 through 5.5 allows attackers with local administrative access to execute code in DXE. SystemFirmwareManagementRuntimeDxe's GetImage method reads the attacker-controlled GetImageProgress runtime variable and invokes its value as a function pointer. Exploitation requires high-privilege OS access to set the variable, and code runs before several chipset locks are set.
