CVE-2023-34042

Local schema modification via world-writable archive entry

Published Feb 5, 2024 · Updated Jun 3, 2025

Incorrect file permissions in Spring Security allow local users to modify spring-security.xsd after extracting an affected configuration JAR. The build packaged a source symlink as the versionless schema, leaving the extracted entry world writable; the corrected build generates and copies a regular file. Affected releases are 5.7.9 through 5.7.10, 5.8.4 through 5.8.6, 6.0.4 through 6.0.6, and 6.1.1 through 6.1.3; exploitation requires high-privilege local file-system access and is limited to integrity impact on the extracted schema.
